Games On! Whether you’re a part of the passionate CrossFit tribe or a member of the equally passionate CrossFit haters club, you can’t help but stare in awe at the awesome athletes taking on whatever insane combination of functional fitness workouts CrossFit Games’ Director Dave Castro throws at them. Marathon row? Whoa. What a twisted way to end day one. 30 Muscle Ups for time? That could take a lifetime for mere mortals who struggle to get one muscle up.
2015 CrossFit Games photo op with the top competitors & Games' Director
We’re throwing it back to 2015 when Team GREEN experienced the Games in all their glory. The six packs, the ripped bods, the booty shorts, barbells, and even the infamous peg board. While our focus was to sample & sell our organic beverage at Vendor Village, we got to play fans too and chat up the chiseled competitors with so much heart and desire to earn the Fittest on Earth title. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words so without further ado, the selfies and the stories behind them.
Selfie with 2016 & 2017 Games Winner Mat Fraser
Day one at the 2015 Games. The scene: Hermosa Beach. After the prone paddle event, we spied Mat Fraser in the parking lot & snapped a selfie. He ended up taking 2nd that year, but he has since won back to back titles & he’s off & running toward a 3-peat.
Selfie with Rich Froning, 4-Time Individual Champ & 2-Time Team Champ
Since we were rookies at the Games, we assumed it was beginner’s luck, but it was a sign of things to come. Scored the ultimate selfie with 4-time Men’s Champ and 2-time Team winner Rich Froning! He is such a role model for the sport. He was gracious and humble when we asked for a picture. We have an even better selfie story about CrossFit Mayhem's leading man ahead.
First, can't leave out this leading lady. 2015’s Fittest Woman on Earth, Katrin Tanja Davidsdottir, was all smiles after her first win and press conference.
Selfie with 2015 & 2016 Games Winner Katrin Tanja Davidsdottir
Saving the best for last, we broke away to witness CrossFit Mayhem win the team competition, led by Rich Froning. After clinching the trophy, Rich didn’t just take a selfie with us. He took it for us. GREEN Founder Alan Joaquin’s cell phone locked up at the worst possible time. Not a problem. Rich didn't miss a beat. He said "What's your code man," input it and took the selfie himself like a true champ.
Funny back story. While we were taking this picture, no one was manning the GREEN booth. We walked out of the stadium to see random fans carrying cases of GREEN that they helped themselves to without paying. They wiped us out. Didn’t leave a single case. We chalked it up as a rookie mistake. It was a game changing moment for GREEN as a then new small beverage brand in a sea of big name competitors. Just as the big stars embraced us as fans, we embraced our Games experience for what it is: an ultimate combination of competition, community, and candids. While we aren't at the Games this year, it's fun to look back and see how much has changed (new venue for Games and new look & flavors for GREEN), and how much has stayed the same (RIch Froning & Mat Fraser still dominating.)
